  • World Trade Center bombing: In New York, New York, a van bomb parked below the North Tower of the World Trade Center explodes, killing six and injuring over 1,000.
  • Warrington bomb attacks: An IRA bomb explodes in Warrington Town Centre and kills two children, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry.
  • Tennis star Monica Seles is stabbed in the back by an obsessed fan of rival Steffi Graf at a tournament in Hamburg, Germany.
